We are pleased to announce the organization of a post-conference field trip to some of the most relevant Late Paleolithic cave sites of Liguria and to Museum of Finale where the famous burial of the “Prince" is on display. The field trip will take place on the 20th and 21st September 2025. Please find the program appended below.
Costs will be between 215 € (double room) and 250 € (single room) and will cover: trip by bus + hotel + breakfast. Costs do not include tourist tax (2€) and meals. A common dinner will be organized in a restaurant on the 20th at a price of 30 €.
The field trip will take place only with a minimum of 21 participants. The maximum number of participants is 45.
All interested participants are kindly asked to adhere to the field trip before the 25th March by sending an email to meso2025@unife.it (object: post-conference field trip to Liguria). Please add in the email the following information: single or double room.
The field trip will be confirmed by the 26th March when participants will be asked to pay the costs through a specific bank account that will be displayed on this page. Maximum deadline for payment: 30th of March.
PROGRAMME
Saturday 20th September – at 8 a.m. departure from Ferrara; arrival in Borgio Verezzi at 1 p.m.; lunch (1-hour time) and visit to the Arene Candide cave (Gravettian, Epigravettian and Neolithic deposits); 4 p.m. transfer to Finale Ligure and visit of the Museo del Finale (the Gravettian burial of the “Prince”; the Final Epigravettian and Neolithic burial grounds).
Overnight near Toirano and dinner at a local restaurant.
Sunday 21st September - departure at 8 a.m.; arrival in Toirano and visit to the Val Varatella Museum (materials from Colombo, S. Lucia, Bàsura and Olivo Caves: cave bear fossils, Middle Paleolithic, Upper Paleolithic, Neolithic and Eneolithic finds) and Bàsura cave (“Corridor of the Paleolithic footprints” and “Bear cemetery”); return to the Museum and presentation of the Mesolithic burial of new-born “Neve” from Arma Veirana by Fabio Negrino (University of Genova). Lunch (1-hour time) and departure for Ferrara.
Arrival in Ferrara at around 8 p.m. (with the possibility to stop in Bologna for those who have a flight from G. Marconi Airport the day after).
